Shed Hair
What is Shed Hair?
Shed hair is a generalised term for diffuse hair loss which may have a number of causes, particularly where excessive hair falls out due to disruptions in the hair growth cycle. Unlike scarring hair loss, shed hair usually results from conditions such as male or female pattern hair loss, and temporary factors like stress, hormonal shifts, illness, or lifestyle changes, leading to more noticeable hair shedding and a reduction in overall hair density.
Treatment Options
-
Shed hair treatments focus on encouraging hair regrowth and restoring balance to the hair cycle. Common targets include:
Reducing Hair Shedding: Reducing daily hair loss and encouraging regrowth by addressing root causes.
Creating ideal conditions for hair regrowth
Hair Density: Improving the density of hair to restore a fuller, healthier appearance.
General Hair Quality: Enhancing the strength, thickness, and resilience of hair.
-
Several treatment approaches can support and stimulate hair regrowth, depending on individual needs:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP)/Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF): PRP/PRF injections use your own plasma to nourish hair follicles, stimulating hair regrowth and improving hair thickness and quality.
Topical Treatments: Minoxidil and specialized scalp serums can improve hair density by promoting blood flow and nutrient delivery to hair follicles, used in male and female pattern balding
Exosome Therapy: Exosomes, rich in growth factors and signaling proteins, are applied to the scalp to stimulate hair follicles, enhance cell communication, and promote healthy regrowth. This advanced treatment encourages hair density and quality, with results that continue to improve over time.
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT): Using red light therapy to stimulate hair follicles and promote regrowth, LLLT is a non-invasive way to encourage thicker, healthier hair.
Nutritional and Hormonal Support: Supplements and medications may address deficiencies or imbalances contributing to hair loss.
-
Shed hair treatments are generally safe, though some side effects are possible:
Scalp Sensitivity: Treatments like PRP or exosome microneedling may cause temporary redness or tenderness at the application site.
Mild Shedding Phase: In some cases, initial treatments can lead to a slight increase in shedding before regrowth begins.
