Acne Prone Skin

What is Acne-Prone Skin?

Acne-prone skin is skin that is more susceptible to breakouts, including blackheads, whiteheads, nodules, and cysts. It’s often caused by excess oil production, clogged pores, bacteria, and inflammation. Managing acne-prone skin requires a consistent skincare routine with targeted treatments to reduce blemishes and prevent scarring.

  • Botulinum toxin works by blocking the signals from nerves to muscles and when injected into specific muscles, it prevents them from contracting. By doing this, Botox effectively relaxes them which leads to smoothening out of the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and lines, and particularly dynamic wrinkles (those caused by repetitive facial movements, such as frowning, squinting, or raising eyebrows).

    • Forehead lines: Reduce the prominent lines that form when you raise your eyebrows, giving you a more refreshed look.

    • Frown lines: Smooth out the deep furrows between and above the eyebrows, creating a softer, more approachable expression.

    • Crow's feet: Minimize the fine lines that appear around the eyes, restoring a youthful sparkle to your gaze.

    • Reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, typically noted after from one week onwards after injections

    • Quick treatment with minimal downtime, allowing patients to resume daily activities almost immediately.

    • Long-lasting effects, with results typically lasting for several months.

    • Customised treatment plans tailored to individual facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.

    • Can combine well with multiple other treatments including skin boosters and dermal fillers.

  • While generally safe, possible common side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, or headaches. Less commonly, temporary asymmetry (results varying between sides of the face dependent on the skill of the practitioner), temporary droopy eyelids or brows if the injection affects unintended muscles, and rarely weakness of nearby muscles if it spreads nearby.

Extremely rarely Botox can cause complications affecting swallowing, breathing, blurred or double vision (which is temporary in most cases), especially in individuals receiving high doses or with pre-existing conditions. Also extremely rare are allergic reactions, including hives, rash, or difficulty breathing.

It is very important to follow the given aftercare instructions, and clients are particularly advised to avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours post-treatment.

  • Results can usually be seen after a week, lasting up to three to six months. Regular treatments are recommended every three to six months to maintain optimal results. Maintaining a healthy skincare routine can also help prolong effects.

  • Alternatives include dermal fillers (which restore volume), chemical peels, skin boosters, PRP, Polynucleotide treatments and laser, which enhance skin texture. Each treatment has unique benefits, and Dr Ghadiri can help determine which option aligns best with your aesthetic goals.
